Thai Garden Design recently partnered with the famous Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, to design and install a tropical memorial garden for Gill Dalley, founder of the organization.
An area measuring approximately 500 sqm had been reserved between the compound buildings.. largely working areas of the Soi Dog Foundation where dogs are helped and housed.
There were several key elements included in the design. A waterfall and pond with deck would be located close to Gill’s statue, with a large terrace area so groups and tours can go to see her.
From Design, to Full Installation
The garden would contain an array of tall palms and foliage type trees, to offer shade to visitors. Meandering pathways would encircle all areas of the garden, with the inclusion of seating, features plants, and a waterpot feature.
The planting list was specifically geared towards cat and dog friendly species, ones that are not toxic to pets in general. This included a mix of palms and ground covers, such as lipstick and foxtail palms, fan palms, crepe ginger, ash bush, and an array of ferns and broad leaf grasses.
The land was built up, with drainage locations taken into account, an important consideration due to the built up area, and Phuket’s precipitous climate!
The team started by importing the trees and installing them with heavy set stacks, to hold them strong during any heavy winds. The pond and hardscapes were then worked on, with a separate pathway team to level and install the brickworks.
Finally, the plants were positioned and planted, and all electrical installed.
In total, the project build was just 3 weeks. The Soi Dog Foundation team were extremely helpful throughout the duration of the project and very happy with the results.
Thai Garden Design were felt extremely privileged to be invited to tender and work with the Soi Dog team on this Tropical Memorial Garden project. Get in touch with us here at Thai Garden Design if you have a landscaping project in Thailand.
