The Thai Garden Design team recently travelled to this lovely boutique ocean resort in the Andaman Islands. Munjoh Ocean Resort is home to some extensive resort gardens and attracts customers from all over the globe. They contacted the Thai Garden Design team to help re-design and install their tropical gardens around the various grass hutted bungalows nestled around the resort grounds.
Much of the resort is under shade from the towering coconut and betal nut palms that grow extensively across the landscape, leaving areas around the bungalows devoid of vegetation. The team selected exclusively from the resorts own stock, and brought ideas to the table which the locals were unfamiliar with, but which made massive inroads and improvements to the current look of the landscaping.
The result is a fantastic array of colour, foliage and natural materials that bring out the best of the available plants, which were planted before with little thought for design.
The team re-arranged the planting to make each bungalow garden unique. Old bricks that lay discarded were used as pavers. Trunks of fallen coconut trees were recut, stained and used as benches, or bird bath holders. Large boulders were employed as features.
The resort now has a collection of revitalised and vibrant tropical gardens, so when the door opens for their high season this October, their visitors will be blown away by the beautiful gardens, and will therefore be returning customers.
