You live in Thailand, and you have a vacant plot next to your house… You have some spare cash, but not enough to build a brand new house… So why not buy the plot, and build a new garden?
Key: 1 Open air bathroom and WC. 2 Flagstone terrace area, with BBQ. 3 Large 30x15ft open sala / pavilion and relaxation area. 4 Brick terrace and simple water feature. 5 Sleeper pathway leading to house plot next door. 6 Paved area with steps leading to parking zone. 7 Covered parking area. 8 Spirit house zone, within planted area
This plot is a typical size, around 60x60ft. Normally reserved for a complete house with small enclosing garden space, if you can afford the purchase, this extra space can be used to greatly expand your current house and garden area. One of the great advantages is that, the area will most likely be flat and slightly overgrown, so the sky is the limit in terms of landscape and garden design.
In this example, the owners can walk from their house plot into this newly landscaped tropical zone. A pathway leads towards a large relaxation sala (3) located in the NE corner, the sala can include a whole manner of luxuries, kitchen, seating, storage rooms and pool tables are all popular additions. The sala itself has an enclosing flagstone terrace, with a BBQ area on the West side and cooling water feature nearby.
The open air bathroom (1) in the NW corner of the plot provides a simple washroom facilities, shower, sink and toilet. Depending on budget, this area can be as modest or elaborate as required.
Towards the bottom of the plot lies a newly installed parking area, so the owner now has extra space to park bikes and cars. The area is enclosed by a wooden gate, and a covered wooden pergola to increase the shade during the daytime. The carpark area has been landscaped so that it lies slightly lower than the rest of the plot, which is on a slight northward slope. Steps leading up to the garden have been installed with gate, helping to enclose the garden.
An interesting paved pathway (6) links the parking area to the relaxation area at the top of the plot.
